Virus-Like Particles (VLP) Development and Production Service

Virus-Like Particles (VLP) are structures composed of viral components without genetic material, making them non-infectious. VLPs resemble viruses structurally and retain their immunogenicity, thereby capable of eliciting immune responses. VLPs can be assembled in vivo by recombinantly expressing multiple capsid proteins in E. coli, insect cells, or mammalian cells. Due to their non-infectious nature and strong immunogenicity, VLPs can be utilized as vaccines. They can also be employed to evaluate immune responses induced by mRNA vaccines. Additionally, VLPs can serve as surrogates for viruses in the evaluation of virus clearance steps in the manufacture and bioprocessing of biotherapeutic materials.

SPEED Biosystems provides VLP development and production services using a proprietary baculovirus system via a self-assembly mechanism. We have the capability to produce high titer (4 x 1013 VLPs/ml), high purity (>99%), and high activity VLPs with high yield (2 x 1014 VLPs/L culture) through either CsCl gradient ultracentrifugation or chromatography procedures.

Based on customer requirements, VLPs can be analyzed with the following assays:

ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
